Sabir Rustamkhanly not to take part in presidential elections in Azerbaijan

28 July 2008 [11:42] - TODAY.AZ
The Civil Solidarity Party, functioning in Azerbaijan, decided about the form of participation in the presidential elections at the session of Supreme Medjlis.
Head of the party's steering committee Samir Asadli told Day.Az that at the recent session the party decided not to participate in the presidential elections with its candidate.

He said the party will also not support any candidacy.

"The decision does not mean that the political structure will boycott presidential elections. The party activists have a free choice in defining the most worthy candidate.

The party decided not to participate, as following the amendments and alterations to the Electoral Code, the abilities of the candidates have been limited. In particular, the term of election campaign has been cut and there is a ban for posting placards in the city center and so on", noted he.

It should be noted that at the last session, held in December, the party decided to participate in the elections.

It should be reminded that in 2003 the party nominated Sabir Rustamkhanly. At that time, the candidate gained 0.82% of votes.
