Panakh Huseyn: "Alterations to the Electoral Code make opposition take radical steps"

The authors of the amendments to the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan made everything possible for the assessment of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan to be negative, said member of the Musavat parliamentary group Panakh Huseyn.

He noted that amendments to the Electoral Code is another step behind.

"The paragraph on payment of deposits for registration of a candidate for president or deputies was introduced to the Electoral Code by recommendation of international organizations. It served creation of equal conditions and elimination of negative facts in the registration of candidates for elections.

The removal of this point create an uncontrolled area while registering of candidates. We have spoken of reducing the deposit, yet the authorities fully excluded this paragraph, which promoted worsening of the election situation", said Huseyn.

According to the deputy, this promotes control of separate politicians over the registration of candidates.

Huseyn considers that with respect to the amendments opposition should review its approaches and tactics, designed for the election situation, should be changed.

"This may be conduction of mass actions, even unsanctioned ones. The authorities make opposition choose the radical way by their amendments to the Electoral Code", said Huseyn.
