Head of Armenian mission in NATO: "Deployment of peacekeeping forces in Nagorno Garabagh conflict will be possible after a political agreement is reached"

30 January 2008 [16:19] - TODAY.AZ
Deployment of peacekeeping forces in Nagorno Garabagh will be possible after a political agreement is reached and upon consent of all the sides of the conflict.

The due announcement was made by the head of Armenian mission in NATO Samvel Mkrtchan, answering the question about NATO's possible involvement to the settlement of Nagorno-Garabagh conflict, in particular, to monitoring of ceasefire observation and about Armenia's request to arrange such a monitoring.

The head of the mission noted that the North Atlantic Alliance is not directly involved into the process of Nagorno-Garabagh conflict settlement and does not have such plans: its secretary general Yaap De Hoop Sheffer has mentioned this repeatedly.

"The Armenian side, in turn, has not made such a request to the alliance. The negotiation process on Nagorno-Garabagh conflict settlement  goes in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group", Samwell Mkrtchan said.
