A preliminary court hearing on the case of editor-in-chief of Azadliq newspaper Ganimat Zahid and Baku resident Vusal Hasanov, who are accused of hooliganism, was held in the Yasamal district court.

Judge Sudaba Mammadova presided over the proceeding.
Editor-in-chief and his defender Elchin Sadigov petitioned for copying the necessary documents in order to familiarize with the criminal case, displaying the footage of the Ganimat Zahid and Vusal Hasanov's testimonies in court and presenting the footages to the sides. The petition for copying the necessary documents was granted, the others were rejected.
This was followed by disclosing sufferer Sevgilade Guliyeva’s application to the court. Guliyeva wrote that she will soon get married and asked to display the footage only in the court saying that presenting the footages to the sides will create problems for her. The sufferer’s appeal was granted.
Lawyers petitioned for commuting the arrest of Ganimat Zahid and Vusal Hasanov. The petitions were rejected and the court hearing was scheduled for January 8, 2008.
The defendants faced charges under articles 221 (hooliganism) and 127 (deliberate causing of minor serious harm to health) of the Criminal Code.
