Azerbaijan marks 62nd VE anniversary

660,000 people participated in the war from Azerbaijan. The divisions of Azerbaijan reached Berlin from the Caucasus. About 130 Azerbaijanis were awarded the Hero of Soviet Union, 30 Glory order as well as 170,000 were awarded different orders and medals.

The first Azerbaijani Hero of Soviet Union Hazi Aslanov, Heroes Israfil Mammadov, Ruslan Vazirov, Adil Guliyev, Ziya Bunyadov, Geray Asadov, Malik Maharramov, Mehdi Huseynzadeh, Generals Mahmoud Abilov, Akim Abbasov, Terlan Aliyarbeyov, Hajibaba Zeynalov and some others are commemorated in different countries which witnessed the war.

Azerbaijani oil was one of the most important factors for winning the war. 23.5 million tonnes of oil-the greatest amount in Azerbaijani history was produced in 1941 which constituted 71.4 percent of the oil produced in the USSR.

Azerbaijani oilers produced 75 million tones of oil, 22 million tones of gasoline and other oil products during the war years. APA
