Baku hosts conference on National Strategy for increase of transparency and combating corruption

Two-day conference dedicated to "National Strategy for increase of transparency and combating corruption" started in Baku today.

The conference is organized by the US Agency of International Development (USAID), Azerbaijan Commission to Combat Corruption, US Embassy, US Department of Justice, OSCE, Council of Europe and Information and Cooperation Network of NGOs to Combat Corruption.

Debate was held on improvement of the National Strategy project. USAID representative Scot Tailor said Azerbaijan has legislative base to combat corruption.

Mr.Taylor stressed that Azerbaijani government can use related documents of the Council of Europe and UN Convention in this work. USAID representative saying that Azerbaijan has made significant progress in combating corruption in a short period, appraised the preparation of a new strategy.

Azerbaijani MP Bakhtiyar Aliyev spoke of the activities for combating corruption in Azerbaijan since 2004, APA reports.

He said the implementation period of the State Program to combat corruption which came to force in December, 2004, ended in December, 2006.

Certain executive structures have been established, laws have been prepared, amendments have been made to the existing legislation in the framework of the program.
