Summit of Caspian states' presidents to be held in Tehran

The summit of Caspian states' presidents will be held in the first term of the next year in Tehran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said he has already sent an invitation on the summit to Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the president has accepted it, APA reports.

Iranian official representative on Caspian Mehdi Seferi said that Iran considers expedient holding summit with participation of littoral states.

"Even if the Convention on Caspian’s status is not ready, littoral states have much to discuss on regional cooperation and security issues," he said.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalfov said that an agreement was reached on intensifying the activity of the working group on the convention concerning Caspian's status.

He said that the working group has already agreed on some points. Foreign Ministry official said the presidents should agree on the main clauses of the Convention till Tehran summit.
