U.S. Senate approved law prohibiting financing of railway project

U.S. Senate approved yesterday the amendment to the law prohibiting financing of construction of the Baku-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway bypassing Armenia.

U.S. Armenian Assembly said the decision has been adopted unanimously. Therefore, U.S. Senate disputed initiative of Turkish and Azerbaijani authorities to build the railway bypassing Armenia.

U.S. Senate decision prohibits U.S. Ex-Im Bank from financing the project. Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan have signed the agreement on construction of the railway branch Kars(Turkey)-Akhalkalaki(Georgia), which will connect Turkey and Azerbaijan. The project is estimated at $400 million. Turan
