Trade tensions escalate between Russia and Yerevan over agricultural exports

04 June 2026 [14:14] - TODAY.AZ

Recent developments point to rising trade tensions between Russia and Armenia, with a series of restrictions affecting Armenian agricultural exports. Following earlier limits on mineral water and cognac, Russian authorities have recently imposed additional bans on imports of several fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumbers, and strawberries. Reports also indicate that restrictions have been extended to certain fish products linked to Armenian exports.

In response, Armenia is reportedly exploring alternative export markets, including potential routes toward the EU and Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia has suggested compensating for reduced imports by increasing supplies from other partner countries in the region.

These developments come shortly before elections in Armenia, adding further sensitivity to an already strained trade relationship between the two countries.
