Parliamentarians elect new speaker and appoint heads of parliamentary commissions

Voting started on Ogtay Asadov’s candidacy as there was no other nominee. Melahet Hasanova was the chair of calculation commission, Zahid Oruj was the secretary and Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Isa Habibbayli, Mikhail Zabelin, Rafael Huseynov and Khanhuseyin Kazimli were the members of the commission. Ogtay Asadov was elected as the speaker of Milli Majlis with 105 out of 106 parliamentarians voting for and 1 parliamentarian voting against his candidacy.

Ogtay Asadov thanked Milli Majlis members for their trust and wished them success in legislative activity. He also noted that he participated in the adoption of laws in the parliament in the past 5 years.

Ziyafet Asgarov, Bahar Muradova and Valeh Asgarov were elected as deputies of the speaker of parliament. Ali Huseynov was elected as head of Permanent Commission for Juridical Affairs and state institution; Ziyafet Asgarov as head of Permanent Commission for Security and Defense Affairs; Ziyad Samadzade as head of Permanent Commission for Economical Policy; Valeh Asgarov as head of Permanent Commission for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology; Eldar Ibrahimov as head of Permanent Commission for Agrarian Policy; Hadi Rajabli head of Permanent Commission for Social Policy; Arif Rahimzade head of Permanent Commission for Regional Affairs; Shamsaddin Hajiyev head of Permanent Commission for Science and Education; Nizami Jafarov head of Permanent Commission for Cultural Issues; Rabiyyat Aslanova head of Permanent Commission for Human Rights and Samad Seyidov as a head of Permanent Commission for International Relations and Interparliamentary Ties.
