Azerbaijani Press Council holds event on World Press Freedom Day - PHOTOS

The Azerbaijani Press Council held an event devoted to May 3, World Press Freedom Day, today. Azerbaijan is in the process of developing the press. The president pays special attention to this area.

One organizer, UNESCO National Commission First Secretary Gunay Efendiyeva said the president was awarded with various awards for the work conducted in this area. The UN focuses on the development of Internet journalism, Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov said. In this regard, the UN secretary general sent a statement to the heads of the world countries.

About 788 journalists were killed over the last decade, the Chairman of the Azerbaijan National Committee of the International Press Institute, the head of the International Eurasian Press Fund (BAMF) Umud Rahimoglu said. Most of these murders, along with Pakistan and Afghanistan, have occurred in Honduras and Mexico.

The fund organized numerous training sessions and competitions to increase the professional skills of journalists.

The financial aid was allocated to the newspapers, executive director of Azerbaijani State Support for Media Development Fund Vugar Safarli said. About 150 people became winners last year. They received a prize worth 1,000 manat. The budget of the fund has been increased this year. It hits 2 million 400,000 manat.
