American political scientist to visit Azerbaijan

Gordon Smith, Director of the U.S.-based Walker Institute of International and Area Studies will be visiting Azerbaijan on April 24-28.

During the visit, Smith will deliver a lecture at Baku State University.

This year, Walker Institute celebrates 50th anniversary. So, scientists of the Institute will visit several countries to deliver lectures and organize conferences.

Founded in 1961 by Ambassador Richard Walker as the Institute of International Studies, the Walker Institute is the second oldest research institute focusing on international affairs at a public university in the United States. Special events will be held throughout 2011 to mark the Walker Institute's long record of sponsoring scholarly conferences, lecture series, and promoting interdisciplinary research. Plans include a year-long series of lectures by distinguished scholars and public figures.

Gordon B. Smith is a Professor of Political Science and Director of the Walker Institute of International and Area Studies. He is the author or editor of ten books and more than 40 articles and book chapters on Russian politics and law. His latest work , Russia and its Constitution: Promise and Political Reality, is published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers in Leiden, The Netherlands in cooperation with the Institute of East European Law and Russian Studies of Leiden University, the Universities of Trento and Graz, and the European Academy of Bolzano.
