
Head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's Russian representation Leyla Aliyeva inaugurated the memorial gravestone to Azerbaijani soldiers, who died during defense of Leningrad.
The gravestone was opened in International Alley of Memory and Glory of memorial “Nevsky Pyatachok”.
The project of the gravestone was implemented under patronage of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s Russian representation with support of the government of Leningrad oblast.
Vice governor of Leningrad oblast Alexander Kuznetsov said opening of the memorial gravestone testifies that nations and heads of our states remain faithful to memory of fathers and grandfathers.
Leyla Aliyeva thanked participants, who came to pay tribute to memory of Azerbaijani soldiers. She said Azerbaijani nation made a great contribution to victory over fascism. More than 300 000 Azerbaijanis died in the fields of battle.
Fighter pilot Huseynbala Aliyev was awarded with the highest award - an Order of Lenin, for shooting down 2 enemy planes during the war.
A list of 850 Azeris, who died in the fight to lift siege of Leningrad in Nevsky Pyatachok and Sinavinsky hills, was published in memory book of Azerbaijan Republic, head of the Russian representation said.
Leyla Aliyeva and Alexander Kuznetsov opened a memorial gravestone and laid flowers. Leyla Aliyeva also visited museum-reserve “Break-through siege of Leningrad”. Aliyeva donated book “Azerbaijanis, who died in fight to lift siege of Leningrad” published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
