"Ago Group has de facto suspended its activity"

30 November 2010 [17:55] - TODAY.AZ
Ago Monitoring Group of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe de facto suspended its activity, permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the council of Europe, Ambassador Arif Mammadov said.

Reminding about 10th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s membership to the Council of Europe on January 24, 2011, the diplomat said Ago Group has done much work these years. “We had very good cooperation with this group and they helped us to fulfill our commitments. They saw most of the commitments were fulfilled and we are now among the countries in the ordinary monitoring category”.

Responding the question about the monitoring conducted by the PACE Monitoring Committee, the ambassador said this monitoring is continued still: “Probably this monitoring will also be suspended soon”.

Mammadov said monitoring is conducted in many countries: “For example, a monitoring group is established when human rights are violated in any country. There is an election monitoring too. We are in the phase of quitting of the negative monitoring. We de facto closed the question of monitoring in the Committee of Ministers and now we are reaching same level in PACE as well”.
