Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Saturday, in regard to Turkey's European Union (EU) membership process, the EU has trifled with Turkey for the past 50 years and continues to do so.
In a ceremony held at the Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) in which he was presented with an honorary doctorate degree by the Senate of the KTU, Erdogan said that Turkey was doing the best it can to join the EU as a full member.
We have formed up a ministry solely for the EU. One of our state ministers works as the chief negotiator and travels to EU countries frequently. Despite these efforts, the EU is trifling with Turkey, Erdogan said.
There has not been a shift of axis in Turkey's foreign policy. Those who allege a shift in Turkey's axis are the ones who have not understood Turkey's multi-dimensional foreign policy, Erdogan said.
I tell the EU countries openly. If you are not a Christian club, you have to let Turkey in as a full member. We are not going to be a burden on the EU but will rather help the EU carry its burden, Erdogan also said.
