"Tracksuit gangsters" - a symbol of Armenia

01 June 2010 [15:11] - TODAY.AZ
Recently, head of the Armenian Center for National and Strategic Studies Richard Kirakosyan came to the following conclusion: "The past year was marked by Armenia's transition from a semi - to a totally authoritarian regime.”

Without beating around the bush, the gang who holds power in Armenia gained their final victory in 2009. Its members wear thick gold chains and Addidas or Nike tracksuits. In fact, the tracksuit has become not only a symbol of Armenia, but also a prerequisite for aspiring officials.

The gang’s accession to power is a momentous event for the country. Ordinary citizens often bear witness to the frequent scuffles among these thugs right on Yerevan's streets. But these thugs do not care about the public. Armenia is living by the laws of the tracksuit gang. These thugs don't only want money. They also need to feel superior to their own people.

These thugs, like all criminals for that matter, are unable enjoy their wealth without making sure that the public faces increased suffering, poverty and deprivation. It is really no surprise at all that the "brain drain" had such a severe effect on Armenia. These thugs in power have an instinctive hatred for smart people, spirituality and dignity, and have forced the nation's intelligent and respectable citizens to flee the country for a better life. As a result, many young people in Armenia see their only chance for success in life as either leaving the country, or joining the ranks of the tracksuit mafia. Without a doubt, the longer this gang stays in power in Armenia, the greater is the risk that Armenia will face oblivion.
