Germany tops list of honorary consuls general in Turkey

Out of 118 countries, 50 of them do not have official embassies in Turkey.

According to figures obtained from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), 97 countries have embassies and consulates general in Turkey.

249 Turkish citizens, appointed by either presidents or foreign ministers of relevant countries, are serving as honorary consuls general in Turkey.

Germany is the country with most honorary consuls general in Turkey. Germany has consuls general in Adana, Bodrum, Bursa, Edirne, Erzurum, Gaziantep, Kayseri and Trabzon.

Austria and France are other countries with most honorary consuls general in Turkey. Both Austria and France have six consuls general in Turkey.

There are 28 countries who have embassies in Turkey but no honorary consuls general:

Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, China, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Japan, Qatar, Kosovo, Kuwait, Cuba, Libya, Egypt, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, Vietnam and Greece.
