Georgian Interior Ministry rejects purchase of torture equipment

In a special statement the Interior Ministry of Georgia refuted statements on purchase of equipment for tortures, as mentioned in the report of Amnesty International.

Georgiaw was said to purchase torturing equipment [police electric shock] from Germany and the Czech Republic.

"The Interior Ministry has never purchased any similar equipment from Germany. Only cars manufactured in Germany are registered with the Ministry, and they were purchased from the official representative office of Volkswagen company," the Ministry states.

The Ministry says the part of the report, mentioning Georgia, is "vague and contains mistakes", and the source, serving as the base of the statement, is "unconfirmed and cannot be found with search engines of the Internet."

The Ministry claims it is ready to cooperate with Amnesty International and provide necessary information to let the flaws be corrected.
