Iran's official: Arab countries' statement is open interference in Iran's internal policy

30 March 2010 [16:35] - TODAY.AZ
This last statement of the heads of Arab countries at the Arab League summit in Libya is open interference in the internal affairs of Iran, Mehr agency quoted official representative of Iran's Foreign Ministry, Ramin Mehmanperest.
Iranian representative's statement was the reaction to the statement of the heads of Arab States, made at the 22-nd meeting in the Libyan city of Sirte, that the three islands in the Persian Gulf - Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa belong to the United Arab Emirates.

"This statement is baseless. Historically, these islands were on the territory of Iran. These unreasonable statements will have no effect on Iran's control over these islands," Mehmanperest said.

He said Iran has repeatedly said that misunderstanding with the UAE over the disputed territories must be resolved through negotiations between the two countries. The intervention of the third party is unacceptable.

Arab countries state that rich deposits of oil and gas of the island in the Strait of Hormuz are owned by Emirates, which Iran categorically rejects.
