Georgian Foreign Ministry to "thoroughly investigate" facts of arm smuggling to Azerbaijan

The Georgian Foreign Ministry is going to appeal to Azerbaijani counterparts over the reports on detention of a terrorist group, who received arms from Georgia.

Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said today at a briefing.

Ministry of National Security detained the members of the organized group, who planned to smuggle from Georgia in a quantity illegal guns, gang to the guns, ammunition, explosive substances, and blasting assembly and organize terror acts in Azerbaijan.

During search operations pistols of "Macarov", "Champion", "Stechkin", "Berett 92", 24 trotyl cartridges, each of the trotyl cartridge weights 400 gr. - altogether 10 kg were found and seized.

"On this issue, we have full information and work with the Georgian Foreign Ministry and will soon get in touch with Azerbaijani colleagues," Vashadze said.

"He stressed that Tbilisi intends to "thoroughly investigate" the situation.

"Information on the supply of arms from Georgia is spread by the Russian media outlets, and this should be treated with caution," the minister said.
