Geneva hosts next round of consultations on security in Caucasus

Today, Geneva will host the 10th round of international consultations on the security of Caucasus region.

The meeting will again be held in two groups - the humanitarian and security issues. Supposedly, the group will discuss the protection of refugee rights and incidents that were observed in the occupied territories, as well as agreement on the nonuse of force.

Georgia is expected to raise the issue of returning of refugees and security. 

"We hope that the Geneva talks will discuss a document prepared by the international community and at least Russia this time will not block this subject," the Georgian delegation said.

The Ossetian side, which hopes that the talks will formalize an agreement not to renew the fire, also will submit its proposals.

"Otherwise, we assume that the Geneva negotiations are a meeting of Georgia's supporters, which met only to implement the plan developed by the Georgian leadership," the representative of the de facto president of South Ossetia, Boris Chochiyev, said.

He underlined that the Ossetian side hopes that this round of talks will not be pointless, and its members will support the agreement not to renew the fire.

The Russian side, as well as representatives of the Tskhinvali and Sukhumi regimes, will arise the question to obtain assurances from Georgia not to use force. They plan to draw the attention of the parties involved in the consultations on the simulated news broadcasted by Imedi television channel.

The 9th round of international consultations on the Caucasian security was held Jan.28.
