Turkey's President in Congo for meetings

Turkey's President Abdullah Gul arrived in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday.
Gul is accompanied by state ministers Selma Aliye Kavaf and Faruk Nafiz Ozak, Industry & Trade Minister Nihat Ergun, businessmen and representatives of nongovernmental organizations.

President Gul had a meeting with Turkish businessmen working in Democratic Republic of Congo at Grand Hotel in Kinshasa.

Turkey attached a great importance to its relations with Africa, the Turkish president said. Gul recalled the Turkey-Africa Cooperation Council meeting that took place in Istanbul in 2008 within the scope of the government's Africa initiative.

President Gul said Turkey extended humanitarian aid to several African countries without expecting anything in return and Turkey's aid exceeded 1 billion U.S. dollars.

Gul added they supported Turkish businessmen in African countries which had great potentials.
