Iranian journalist arrested in Italy

Iranian television first channel introduced Hamid Masuminedjad as a freelance journalist yesterday evening. Representative of the Iranian airline in Rome Masuminedjad also was arrested after the preparation of material on a demonstration against racism.

According to some Iranian news agencies, Masuminedjad was arrested together with individuals arrested the day before.

"Operation Sniper", which was led from the northern city of Milan, was also aimed at suspected members of the Iranian secret services.

Italians and other foreigners were reported to have been illegally exporting weapons to Iran, which is under an international arms embargo.

The police had nine arrest warrants though it was unclear how many people were actually arrested.
