Iranian ambassador to IAEA: NAM precisely criticized agency secretary general’s report

04 March 2010 [11:20] - TODAY.AZ
Iran’s Permanent Ambassador to IAEA said here Wednesday night at end of Board of Governor’s talks on Iran, “NAM very precisely criticized Secretary General Yukia Amano’s Report.
Soltaniyeh said, “This was a regular session. Fortunately Egypt’s ambassador, on behalf of 100 NAM member countries, read out a very strongly worded communiqué and for the first time very precisely criticized the Secretary General’s report, arguing that it had been prepared against the agency’s norms.”

According to Soltaniyeh, Egypt’s ambassador at the agency said that the nature of Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful, stressing that Iran’s status at the agency should turn back to normal.

Iran’s representative at the agency reiterated, “I, too, in my address while criticizing the Amano Report, emphasized that the lengthy report by referring to the brief history of the issue, not only has confused the public opinion, but also has provided incorrect information for the public.”

He reiterated, “Has any particular development in Iran’s nuclear program taken place after Amano took charge?” adding, “The only development has been enrichment up to 20% ceiling to provide fuel for Tehran Research Reactor (TRR).”
Soltaniyeh emphasized, “Definitely the silence of the others and the silence of the secretary general in this respect and in case of the objections we had made earlier was a sign proving that Amano, too, has come up with the conclusion that the report has had problems, and I hope in the future such problems would be eliminated, and rather, remunerated.”

Iran’s envoy to the agency reiterated, “Elsewhere in my address I delved deep into the roots of the past years events, after which I conveyed the very important message both to the Board of Governors and to the world nation, telling them that Iran’s nuclear program is no more than a pretext since the United States and a few other western countries are after turning the agency into an inspection arm under the supervision of the UN Security Council so that they would resorting to their veto power be able to dictate their demands from New York to Vienna.”

Soltaniyeh reiterated, “I hereby declare that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the other countries with the same mentality will not permit the occurrence of such a development.”

He added, “The other point I made in my address was expressing concern over lack of security for the confidential information provided for the IAEA insepctors, regarding which I strongly asked the secretary general to survey the matter, because the secret information delivered to the IAEA inspectors during their countless inspections in Iran, or the other countries need to be regarded as confidential and safeguarded properly.”

Iran’s ambassador at the agency said, “About issue of fuel for the TRR, I voiced my objection, since the agency has not been able to heed its main responsibility. Meanwhile, keeping in mind that the other countries had not officially and responsibly responded, we had no other option, but to shoulder the enrichment task ourselves, and we declared this very important message.”

Soltaniyeh reiterated, “The fact that no country has up to now agreed to deliver the required fuel for Tehran Research Reactor to us is a historic document for the noble Iranian nation, proving the correctness of the decision adopted by the officials of the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran to do the enrichment ourselves, as there is no reliable partners, and that we need to adopt important decisions independently.”

He added, “This in fact proved that the historic decision adopted was a rational one.”

Soltaniyeh said, “We meanwhile announced that we are ready for simultaneous exchange of fuel at Iran’s soil and in fact I proved that Iran’s proposal was a window and an opportunity that we have opened before the countries on the one hand, and a test for the extent of their well intentions on the other hand, reflecting their will either for confrontation, or for cooperation.”

Soltaniyeh meanwhile added, “I emphasized to them that this proposal would not remain on the table for good since with the blow of a weak breeze it could be taken off the table.”
