Survey: Georgians don't want to help U.S. in Afghanistan

02 February 2010 [10:59] - TODAY.AZ
Citizens of Georgia don't approve of the initiative of President Saakashvili, who proposed the US to use the country's territory for operation against Taliban in Afghanistan, the survey conducted among Georgians said.

About 89.66 percent out of 706 respondents were against; only 9.49 were for with the rest finding it difficult to answer.

Several days ago President Saakashvili offered the US to use territory of Georgia for transportation of armaments and supplies to Afghanistan.

Saakashvili is quoted in an interview with Associated Press as outlining a proposal to develop a corridor for the shipment of armaments across Georgia and Central Asia to Afghanistan.

The Georgian leader is sure that implementation of his ideas wouldn't irk Moscow, since Russia is also interested in success of anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan.
