Media reports claiming that construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has stopped are not true, Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Spokesperson Namiq Hasanov said.

He said the construction of the railway proceeds under the schedule.
“Construction stops from time to time there due to passing of difficult areas, but, in general, suspending construction is out of the question,” Hasanov said.
The project envisages 105-kilometer branch line railway, 76 kilometers of which will be lie through Turkey and 29 kilometers through Georgia.
183-kilometer railway section of Marabda-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi will also be overhauled in Georgia to increase capacity to 15 million tons of cargo per year.
The project is estimated at $422 million and at $600 million including accompanying infrastructure.
