21 January 2008 [11:08] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijan currently has diplomatic missions in more than 50 countries", Parvin Khayam oglu Mirzazade, chief of the State Protocol Service under the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, said.

He noted that the year of 2007 was too tense for his department.

"As you know, Baku hosted the GUAM summit and there were lots of arrangements both in Azerbaijan and abroad in 2007. The President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, in other words, the whole leadership of Azerbaijan was active as to the external policy".

He noted that many foreign delegations on the level of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister visited Azerbaijan this year.

According to him, the volume of the protocol work has risen by 50% as compared to previous years.

Parvin Mirzazade said Azerbaijan opened six diplomatic missions in other countries in 2007 and added that the President ratified resolutions of Milli Medjlis on opening of a number of diplomatic missions in such countries as Argentina, Croatia, Thailand, Syria and others.

"Perhaps there will be other countries as well. We will also put forward due initiatives. The main problem in this issue is the problem of personnel and of course finances. But we have a program and we act in line with it"

He noted that Azerbaijan currently has diplomatic missions in more than 50 countries and added that Azerbaijan plans to have different forms of diplomatic missions, including embassies, consulates general, consulates or diplomatic offices, in 70-80 countries in the near future.
