Senator Richard Lugar holds meeting in Azerbaijan's parliament

The meeting was attended by the chairman of the commission Samed Seidov, members of the commission Asim Mollazade and Ganira Pashayeva.

The meeting participants discussed partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan's integration into the Euroatlantic space and issues of regional security of cooperation.

The sides also considered expansion of relations between Milli Medjlis and the US Senate.

S.Seidov informed senator R.Lugar about the social and political situation in Azerbaijan.

Mollazade, in turn, informed the visitor about the preparations for the forthcoming presidential elections of 2008, Nagorno-Garabagh conflict and other conflicts on the South Caucasus and cooperation in the framework of GUAM.

Deputy Pashayeva drew Lugar's attention on the still working resolution No 907 of the US Congress.

She noted that the citizens of Azerbaijan do not understand the fact that the resolution has not yet been abolished by the Congress of the country, which calls Azerbaijan its closest ally on anti-terror coalition and the issues of global security.

Pashayeva noted that the preservation of the resolution is more a moral issue for Azerbaijan than an economic one.

The deputy noted that Lugar is a close friend of Azerbaijan, and such people as he is could make a report in the US Senate about the inadmissibility of the preservation of this resolution.

In turn, Lugar also noted that he does not support this resolution and the position of the US administration on the issue is evident.
