Fuji Optical head honours Nansen Refugee Award

Dr. Akio Kanai, head of Japanese Fuji Optical Co. Ltd was honored the Nansen Refugee Award for his gratuitous ophthalmological services to the refugees and IDPs, according to the press-service of Azerbaijan Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The Award, consisting of a medal and a $100,000 monetary prize, is given out yearly to a person or group for outstanding services in supporting refugee causes.

The representatives of the diplomatic corps in Geneva, functioning in the humanitarian area once again familiarized themselves with the hard humanitarian situation of Azerbaijan. Since 2004, 8179 IDPs were supplied with the Fiji Optical glasses.

Dr. Akio Kanai is scheduled to visit Azerbaijan in April or May 2007. He cooperates with UNHRC since 1984 and repeatedly visited Nepal, Thailand and Azerbaijan. AzerTAg
