Pro-official Iranian political analyst thinks Karabakh should participate in negotiations

09 October 2006 [16:42] - TODAY.AZ
Russia, Central Asia and Caucasus Investigation Center (RCACIC) operating in Iran introduced Nagorno Karabakh as a conflict side.

In his article titled "Iran's potential of mediating in Nagorno Karabakh conflict" Daryush Safarnejat used no separatism expression. In the article Nagorno Karabakh was introduced as conflict side, but nothing was written about the occupation of Azerbaijan territories by Armenian invaders. On the contrary, he noted that Nagorno Karabakh soldiers occupied some adjacent regions to Karabakh Autonomous Republic in 1992-1993.

The author says no serious improvements are observed in the solution of the conflict, because Karabakh does not take part in peace making process. At the end of the material supporting the interests of Armenians, Iran as a border country with the three given countries Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Karabakh can offer Nagorno Karabakh's participation in peace negotiations.

The author stresses that Iran does not recognize Karabakh as independent political unit, but being the regional power state can help it.

RCACIC is supported by Iran Government and its publications express official Tehran's position. The president of center Mehdi Senai worked as adviser of cultural affairs of Iran ambassador to Kazakhstan (1995-1998) and to Russia (1999-2003) and at the moment is a teacher at Tehran University. APA
