President Aliyev: "Pipeline to boost Turkey-Azerbaijan ties"

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said Wednesday that the inauguration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Oil Pipeline would further boost Turkish-Azerbaijani relations.

Aliyev made his remarks Wednesday at the opening ceremony of a park named after his father, Haydar Aliyev, in the Sariyer quarter in northern Istanbul.

Stressing that the BTC pipeline was one of the projects to which his father had attached the greatest importance, Ilham Aliyev stated that Turkey would play a significant role in the energy policies of countries in the region and in the world.

Aliyev, went on to say that the improving cooperation between the two countries was important for the happiness and welfare for the peoples of the two friendly states.

"We are very happy and content that today the political and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are at their highest level," the visiting Azeri president remarked.

Aliyev, who is visiting Turkey to attend Thursday's historic inauguration of the BTC pipeline in Ceyhan, was accompanied by Turkish State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin during the opening ceremony of Haydar Aliyev Park, named after the former Azerbaijani president.
