Second lot of Azerbaijani oil to be sent from Port Ceyhan in June

05 June 2006 [13:36] - TODAY.AZ
The second delivery of Azerbaijani oil (in the framework of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli exploitation) with several tankers from Port Ceyhan is expected to be realized during June.

As APA reports, according Tamam Bayatly, BP Azerbaijan Press Coordinator, 10 million barrels oil required for filling up Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline is already pumped into it and the process is over.

The first lot of crude oil transported in a 1768 kilometer-distance BTC pipeline already reached Ceyhan and was shipped on tanker. That tanker was seen off at Ceyhan terminal yesterday at 14.15 on Baku time. One of the 7 tanks with one million barrel capacity volume each was filled up with oil reaching Ceyhan. When the others will be filled up is not known yet. As to sales, Ms. Bayatly has told that the procedure would be the same with ones in Baku-Supsa and Baku-Novorossiysk. Bayatly has added that daily 200 thousand barrels oil is currently transferred through the pipeline. The capacity will come to 300-350 thousand barrels daily by late year.

600 thousand barrels crude oil was shipped on first tanker in Ceyhan. That lot of oil was purchased by Exxon Mobile, USA. Oil will be first transported from Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli in Azerbaijani sector of The Caspian Sea. Afterwards, oil capacity from other side of the sea will probably join the pipeline. Turkish part of the pipeline has 4 pumping stations, 2 measuring stations and Ceyhan sea-export terminal. The terminal itself has 7 oil tanks, as well as mooring bridge of a 2-kilometer length for filling up two tankers of 300 thousand tons each.

Shareholders of BTC Co., a pipeline exploitation company, are BP (30,1%), AzBTC (25%), Chevron (8,90%), Statoil (8,71%), TPAO (6,53%), ENI (5%), Total (5%), Itochu (3,40%), INPEX (2,50%), ConocoPhilips (2,50%) and Amerada Hess (2,36%).

Official inauguration of Turkish part of the pipeline, Ceyhan terminal and entire BTC system is expected to happen on July, 13 in 1076 kilometers of the pipeline.
