President Ilham Aliyev met President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai

May 4, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan met his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai and accompanying delegation.

As APA informs, Hamid Karzai pointed out that he was impressed with the economic progress Azerbaijan has achieved over the last few years. The Afghan leader informed President Ilham Aliyev on the work being done in his country to restore its economy in the wake of the long-running civil wars.

Speaking of the processes of economic development in Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that the country had managed to achieve the economic progress even though 20 percent of its territory had been occupied as a result of Armenian aggression.

He described socio-political stability as an important condition to ensure economic development of and large investments inflow into a country. The Azerbaijani leader expressed hope for rebirth and economic progress in Afghanistan.

The two Presidents also discussed prospects of possible economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Afghanistan, as well as the issues concerning regional cooperation including in oil and gas sector.
