International human rights conference due

On initiative of the Ombudsman of the Azerbaijan Republic Elmira Suleymanova, Baku is to host May 5-7 at international conference on human rights "Status of cooperation and prospects to improve protection of human rights".

As AzerTAg reports, the action is to be organized jointly with Ombudsman of the Russian Federation V. Lukin and human rights ombudsmen of the Federation subjects.

The event to be organized by financial support of Azerbaijan Government, will give chance to protect the rights of Azerbaijanis living in Russia, and also ensuring rights and freedoms of citizens inside the Republic.

The newly elected Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe Tomas Hammerberg also will arrive in Baku on the day of conference - on the eve of Day of Europe.

Mr. Hammerberg is expected to meet with country's officials, relevant bodies, familiarize with the status of human rights and freedoms in the Republic.
