The UK and India are resuming negotiations aimed at concluding a free trade agreement, Azernews reports.

This was stated in a release from the office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, distributed following his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rio de Janeiro.

"The United Kingdom is committed to a new strategic partnership with India, including the conclusion of a trade agreement, as well as expanding our cooperation in areas such as security, education, technology, and combating climate change," the document reads.

Negotiations were suspended eight months ago due to the start of the pre-election period in both countries. Their resumption was scheduled for November.

The office noted that the annual trade turnover between the two countries exceeds $50 billion, of which $21 billion is accounted for by British exports.
