The long-awaited Baku International Jazz Festival has opened in Baku this weekend, Trend Life reported.
Baku, the birthplace and hometown of such famous figures in jazz history as Vagif Mustafazadeh, Rain Sultanov, Jamil Amirov, Isfar Sarabski and others, brought together prominent jazz musicians from Brazil, Georgia, Spain, Sweden, France, Austria, Turkey, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Japan and Colombia.
The festival offers to the widest circles of audience a real celebration of music with countless performances, workshops, and competitions.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said that the festival had turned into a tradition.
The Minister emphasized that young and talented Azerbaijani jazz musicians successfully participate in prestigious international music contests and festivals, including the jazz festival in Montreux, Switzerland.
The opening ceremony continued with majestic concert by Brazilian Gabriel Grossi trio. One of the greatest harmonica players in the world mesmerized the Baku audience, showing the rich Brazilian music.
The performance was accompanied by another Brazilian Jurandir Santana and Spanish performer on percussion instruments Marc Miralta.
The dynamic performance of Gabriel Grossi trio made the beginning of the Baku international jazz festival a truly vivid and memorable.
Baku International Jazz Festival will run until October 30.
Fascinating series of concerts will be held at the Heydar Aliyev Palace, Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Society named after M. Magomayev , the International Mugham Center, Baku Organ and Chamber Music Hall of the Muslim Magomayev Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Society and local music clubs.
