'World public opinion willing to know 5+1 reason for delay in talks'

Secretary of Iran's National Security Council Sa'eid Jalili said here Wednesday world public opinion is waiting for a logical reply on part of 5+1 for four month delay in process of their nuclear negotiations with Iran, Press TV reported.

The representative of the Supreme Leader at the IRI Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Jalili made the comments in a meeting with visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov who is meanwhile his country's representative at the G5+1.

He added, 'Iran and Russia have constructive interactions on numerous issues and expansion of strategic cooperation between the two countries can not only secure greater interests of the two nations, but also lead to taking better advantage of joint potentials.'

According to an IRNA Wednesday night report, the Secretariat Office of the SNSC further reported Jalili as stressing that Iran is just as always ready for resuming negotiations, adding, 'The Islamic Republic of Iran hopes the Group of 5+1 would return to the negotiation table as soon as possible and we also hope they would have a convincing justification for their four month delay in resuming the talks.'

Turning to the Syrian crisis issue, Dr. Jalili added, 'The West has made a miscalculation regarding Syria, which is a clear sample for the defeat of the hegemonic policies of the United States and the (racist) Zionist regime in the region.'

The Secretary General of SNSC added, 'The Islamic Republic of Iran has a strategic and a basic logic, based on which it has paved the path towards progress and advancement throughout 33 years of its Islamic Revolution.'

In the meeting also the Deputy Russian Prime Minister Ryabkov welcoming the idea of further expansion of the strategic economic and political cooperation with Iran, emphasized that Iran is legitimately insisting on taking advantage of its full nuclear rights within the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) of which it is a signatory party.

Ryabkov who is in a snap visit of Tehran also noted that the only logical solution capable of ending the Syrian crisis soon is ending the aggressions there and resorting to democratic ways, emphasizing, 'The military solutions and arming the oppositions is a mistake that has roots in the selfish tendencies and hegemonic policies of certain countries.

The Russian deputy foreign minister also urged continuation of talks between Iran and the P5+1 group -- comprising Britain, China, France, Russia and the US plus Germany -- over Tehran's nuclear energy program.

"Negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group must continue under any circumstances," Ryabkov said.

Asked what Moscow's reaction to one-to-one talks between Tehran and Washington would be, Russia's chief nuclear negotiator said that Moscow will not oppose direct talks between the two countries.

'We will not have a word against this. Of course, we would hope we would be informed on the content of these arrangements," he added.

Iran and the P5+1 group, have held several rounds of multifaceted talks with the main focus being Iran's nuclear energy issue.

Tehran has repeatedly voiced its readiness for negotiations based on mutual respect while maintaining that it will not give up its inalienable rights under any circumstances.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran argues that as a signatory to Non-Proliferation treaty and a member of International Atomic Energy Agency it is entitled to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
