Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has called on all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to use their utmost potential and make collective efforts to establish peace in the world, Press TV reported.
"At the current juncture, we have made our utmost efforts to promote general objectives of the Non-Aligned Movement including fostering solidarity among all member states, which is a prerequisite for an efficient movement," Salehi said during the opening ceremony of the NAM expert-level meeting in Tehran on Sunday.
"Today, we need firm collective measures more than ever before to promote cultural diversity and established rights, particularly the right of determining fate and having democratic governments", he added.
"We need to revive our movement in accordance with the current conditions in the world", the Iranian minister pointed out.
He stated that during its presidency, Iran will seek to strengthen the NAM to enable it to fulfill its historical duties.
Salehi stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance since "selfish and interfering" policies are still being used in international relations.
The 16th summit of the NAM member states kicked off in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Sunday.
NAM, an international organization with 120 member states, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
