Toghrul Asgerov: ‘ My goal is to become double Olympic champion’

Azerbaijani athletes, participants of the XXX Summer Olympic Games in London returned home this morning. Athletes were welcomed by members the public and sports federations at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku.

Olympic champion on wrestling Toghrul Asgerov shared his impressions with reporters. "I am happy. Every athlete dreams to become winner of the Olympics, and I am not an exception. Only after returning to Baku, I realized that I am winner of the Olympics," Asgerov said.

He said one can not rest on his laurels. "I will train still more. My goal is to become a world champion and double Olympic champion," Asgerov said.

Azerbaijan's Olympic team was represented by 53 athletes in 16 sports at the London Olympics.

Our athletes won 10 medals, including 2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze.

Togrul Asgerov and Sharif Sharifov became the Olympic champions among free-style wrestlers; while Khetag Gazyumov won bronze medal.

Rovshan Bayramov won silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling, Emin Ahmadov - bronze.

Our female wrestlers also returned home with medals. Mariya Stadnik won silver medal, Julia Ratkevich - bronze.

Boxers Teymur Mammadov and Magomedrasul Majidov won bronze medals at the Olympics.

Weightlifter Valentin Hristov also won bronze medal.
