Georgia offers world eco-friendly products

21 June 2012 [13:50] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia offers the world 'green energy' and eco-friendly agricultural products, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Vera Kobalia told journalists.

She is attending the Sustainable Development Conference in Rio de Janeiro together with the Environment Minister Goga Khachidze.

The forum is being attended by leaders of more than 100 countries. The conference participants noted that in recent years, problems of economic development have been put to the forefront and this has led to environmental issues being ignored which is unacceptable.
The conference adopted more than 200 recommendations which the world powers must meet to improve the environmental situation.

As Kobalia said, Georgia has the ability to produce 'clean energy'. "We have already started trial supplies of 'green power' to Europe and supplied it to Serbia and later to European countries. In the coming years we intend to increase the production of such electricity and supply it to European countries in large quantities," she said.

The Georgian Economy Minister also said that the country produces eco-friendly food products and intends to offer the world natural agricultural products which will be of interest.

Kobalia also held several meetings with the delegations which mainly discussed the development of tourism.
