New equestrian centre to be built in Azerbaijan

A new equestrian centre is to be completed soon in Fatmai on the Absheron Peninsula, according to an Azerbaijani official.

The secretary general of the Equestrian Federation of Azerbaijan, Bahruz Nabiyev, said the centre would cover 86 hectares.

He told a  news conference on the new horse racing season, which starts on 15 April, that horse racing should reach a new level of development this year.

“Totalizer bids will be available beginning from this season. We want to use this to attain the further development of equestrian sports in Azerbaijan,” the secretary general said.

He said that nine international equestrian tournaments were expected in Azerbaijan in 2012.
