According to preliminary data, two Syrian citizens were killed and 11 people were wounded in shootout on the Turkish-Syrian border between Syrian security forces and opposition members, who attempted to flee to Turkey, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.

One of the wounded is a Turkish citizen, working as translator in the camps, where the Syrian refugees are accommodated.

The shootout between the Syrian army and opposition has been continuing on the border since 4:00 am local time. Turkish Foreign Ministry called on the Syrian side to cease the fire.

According to the recent data, the number of the Syrian refugees in the territory of Turkey exceeds 24,000 people.

Anti-government protests which began in mid-March have persisted in Syria for almost a year. Daily reports are being received about the deaths of people, both civilian and the security forces.

According to UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 9000. The Syrian authorities accuse armed militants of the clashes saying they receive assistance from neighbouring countries.
