Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad blamed NATO forces and in particular, the United States for the difficult situation in Afghanistan. The Iranian leader made the statement today whilst speaking at a conference of regional cooperation on Afghanistan, which opened in Dushanbe, ITAR-TASS reported.
"The reason for all the trouble in Afghanistan is a presence on Afghan soil of NATO forces and in particular, the U.S. military," Ahmadinejad stressed.
After this statement, the U.S. delegation, headed by Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Robert Blake, left the conference room returning only at the end of the Iranian president's speech.
"The Afghan people have been attacked in their own homes. Is the problem in the people?" the Iranian leader asked.
He said the whole problem is in 'the NATO policy, which under the guise of fighting terrorism in Afghanistan, has entered and is now under the same slogan surrounding Russia and China'. He noted that NATO and the U.S. should change their policy because the time when they could dictate their terms to the world has passed.
The Iranian president stressed that NATO and the U.S. should leave Afghanistan and all its problems, including those with drugs all of which will be resolved after their withdrawal.
