The volume of investments of mobile operator Azercell in the telecommunications sector in Azerbaijan in 2011 amounted to $170.2 million, the company's Marketing Department head Ahmed Karimov told journalists on Friday.
According to Karimov, the company's total investments over the period of its activity have exceeded $1 billion. Some $136.1 million have been transferred to the state budget in 2011. The total amount of funds transferred by the company to the state budget exceeded one billion dollars.
At present Azercell holds 55-percent share in Azerbaijani mobile market. In late 2011, the company installed 669 new base stations, the total number of which now hits 2,373 units. The total number of Azercell subscribers exceeds 4.2 million.
