‘Armenia already lives in state of emergency’

13 February 2012 [15:27] - TODAY.AZ
Armenia has been living in a state of emergency for several years, Azerbaijani political scientist  Fikret Sadikhov said. “It’s difficult to call the political situation in this country otherwise,” he said, while commenting on that Armenia adopted a law on emergency situations.

He said the country, which is in isolation and quarrels with two neighboring countries, and whose authorities, in turn, is feuding with his own people - of course, out-of-the-ordinary phenomenon.

“That is, adopting this law, the Armenian government is trying to further extend their stay in power. Armenia will soon hold parliamentary elections. Surely, this does not suggest anything good for the present regime, because a wave of mass protest, which exists in Armenia, will show itself and express their dissatisfaction because the government will try to rig the elections and continue to monitor the situation in the country. Of course, the government will take extreme measures,” he said.

Sadikhov believes this law is directed against the Armenian people. “On the other hand, this is the last step in the political life of Armenia, which makes the power not legitimate. Because, by adopting this law, the government, actually aiming to fight against his people, eventually will make every effort to deepen the gulf between themselves and the people,” he added.

"Rather than addressing the socio-economic problems and dealing with foreign policy issues, the Armenian leadership aim to the ‘draconian’ measures,” he noted.
