KLO member manages to enter to press-conference of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs but is taken out by security service

The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Steven Mann (USA), Bernar Fasie (France) and Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia) made a joint statement after meetings held with the president Ilham Aliyev, minister of foreign affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and head of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorni Garabagh Nizami Bahmanov in the framework of their visit to Baku yesterday.

The document notes that the course of the discussions shows that the "Prague process" follows in a right direction. As to the co-chairs calling 2006 year a window opening forward, achieving a result requires the ceasefire.

The co-chairs told the journalists requiring announcement of the details of the negotiations held that confidence of the negotiations is preserved; otherwise, the talks will turn out no results. Co-chairmen stated that they believe the agreement will be achieved in 2006 and the works are in the right course.

Yuri Merzlyakov explaining the task of the OSCE High Level Planning Group located in the region at present said that this Group had been established in 1996. The Group consists of 12 officers representing mainly the countries included in OSCE and Minsk Group. The Group has come to the region for the first time 8 years before and its task is to reconsider the plan of operation of the peacekeeping forces. The Russian co-chair answering the question on when the Nagorno-Karabakh delegation will join the talks replied that such an opportunity will occur after the principles of the agreement are coordinated.

Meanwhile, group of Karabakh Liberation Organization members was protesting action in front of the "Hyatt Regency" hotel where the co-chairmen were conducting their press-conference. Because the police was informed beforehand about the action, the surroundings of the hotel were taken under control and police did not allow the demonstrators to approach the hotel.

After the police’s intervention, the demonstrators dispersed. Seven KLO members were detained and taken to the Yasamal district Police Department. The KLO member Shaig Suleymanov managed to entered conference room and asked the Minsk Group co-chairs what are the reasons for their countries to display pro-Armenian position in regulation of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Besides it, he criticized OSCE because of serving the Armenian policy and submitted the co-chairs KLO's statement. After that he was taken out by the hotel's security service.
