Qualifying round in the Group 7 as part of the European Under-17 Football Championship started in Croatia on 26 October.
The teams from Azerbaijan, Croatia, Belgium and Ukraine are competing for a license to elite round in this group. The Azerbaijani team took on the host team in its first match. The match held in Rovin city ended 2:1 in favor of Azerbaijan.
The score was opened in the 33rd minute by Ruslan Nasirli. Later Orkhan Aliyev scored the second goal in the 53rd minute. The only goal of the Croatian team came from Marco Piaci in the 69th minute.
In another match in this group Ukraine beat Belgium 2:0.
Azerbaijani team will hold the next match against Belgium on 27 October. The match will take place in Umag and start at 18:30 Baku time.
"We watched a video of Croatian team’s game. They knew that the opponent is strong. Given this we staked on counterattack. Our goal was to successfully start the qualifying round and we did it,” chief coach of the Azerbaijani team Tabriz Hasanov said.
