Nearly 160 chess players have come together in Azerbaijan's capital for the Baku Open-2010 international tournament.
The Swiss system tournament will feature 9 rounds. Total prize fund is 60,000 USD.
Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev to develop the chess in the country as well as construction of the up-to-date chess schools in the regions gave an impulse to development of this kind of sport.
Vice President of Chess Federation Faig Hasanov hailed this tournament as a gift to lovers of chess.
The ceremony was followed by a press conference.
Azerbaijan's favorites Gata Kamski (2713), Yevgeni Miroshichenko (2686), Emil Sutovski (2665), Rauf Mammadov (2660), Ilya Smirin (2646), Aleksey Aleksandrov (2642), Boris Savchenko (2623), Gadir Huseynov (2611) and Eltac Safarli (2603) are leading the table with 1 pts.
