There are famous sayings, such as the one coined by Valdano about Bernabéu stage fright, or Juanito when Madrid lost 3-1 to Inter Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Cup. "Ninety minutes at the Bernabéu is a very long time," uttered the explosive Real Madrid player. And Madrid staged a comeback in the second leg. Dani Alves repeated the message of the ill-fated Juanito yesterday.
"We have to look at what we did wrong and improve that, but there are 90 minutes left, and they might seem like a very long time for them at the Camp Nou," said the defender, who attempted to sound upbeat: "We have a title which can't get away from us and we also have 90 minutes to try to make it through to the final of the Champions League. People should judge the outcome when it's all over."
Marc Bartra, who played his first Champions League semi-final, was also optimistic regarding the second leg at the Camp Nou: "We have another final next week. Bayern is a great team, but we can do the same thing they did here. We already came back against Milan. We're confident that we have a chance. We have to be optimistic and positive, although it's true that they beat us in every aspect of the game today."
On a personal level, he had nothing to highlight: "I'm not unhappy with the game I played, but it's tough to concede four goals. Today wasn't our day."
