The SportAccord World Mind Games involving two Azerbaijani grand masters Teimour Radjabov and Shahriyar Mammadyarov has started today in Beijing, China.
The go competition includes an individual men`s tournament (16 players), an individual women`s tournament (16 players), and a mixed doubles tournament.
Besides Radjabov and Mammadyarov, this year, the top seeds in the men section are Sergey Karjakin (World Rapid Champion 2012, Russia), Grischuk Alexander (World Blitz Champion 2012) and Alexander Morozevich (Russia), Hikaru Nakamura, Gata Kamsky (both from USA), Ivanchuk Vassily (Ukraine), Leko Peter (Hungary), Bologan Viktor (Moldova), Ding Liren (China), Giri Anish (the Neherlnads), Aronian Levon (Armenia) and Fressinet Laurent (France). The strongest Chinese player, Wang Hao, who also became the winner in a rapid tournament of the Mind Games 2011, will also take part in the tournament.
The World Mind Games consists of 5 disciplines: chess, bridge, draughts (checkers), go, and xiangqi (Chinese chess). This year brings an all-star field of men and women to play rapid, blindfold and blitz.
Since the last year the World Mind Games have been organized and held by a famous and respectable organization called SportAccord. SportAccord is the umbrella organization for both Olympic and non-Olympic sports as well as a major organizer of conferences and sporting events.
